Mary Spears

Rider Coordinator

I’m originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, and have been in the Triangle since 1996. I joined Helping Horse in 2001, as a Side Walker and Horse Leader,  and soon stepped into the role of Rider Coordinator, working directly with riders and their families. I’ve also served as a member of the Board of Directors, Secretary of the Board, and recently, as President of the Board of Directors. I am also a member of the training and exercise team.

Family is everything to me. We have five adult children, three of whom live in the Raleigh area, with their families. I adore my grandchildren and feel fortunate to have them near, and to spend lots of time with them. I love spending time with my family and my dog. I love the outdoors and spend lots of time horseback riding, hiking, camping, and gardening, both locally and in the mountains. But most days, you can find me at the farm, spending time with our riders and horses.

I love working with our horses and special needs riders. I get so excited to see our riders achieve a goal, no matter how small. It means so much to see a rider strive and work so hard – and then achieve a new success. I am excited that Helping Horse continues to grow and serve a greater number of new riders every year. Do you know someone who may benefit from riding with Helping Horse? Click here for more info on our classes and registration. Hope to see you soon, at the farm!
