Kelly Grimes

Instructor Coordinator

I am originally from Columbus, Ohio, and grew up taking horseback riding lessons and got my first horse at age 10. I went to college at Middle Tennessee State University where I took Equine Science courses and participated in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association on both the english and western teams. I got my start teaching riding lessons for the Girl Scouts of Cumberland Valley at Camp Sycamore Hills in Ashland City, TN.

We moved to Raleigh in 2003 for my husband to attend graduate school at NC State University. Currently, I work full time for the USDA Farm Service Agency. I have 2 boys, Evan age 13 and Robbie age 10.

I started volunteering for Helping Horse in 2007 and have served as a horse leader, side-walker, assistant instructor, instructor, board member, and now serve on the Operations Committee as the Instructor Coordinator. My favorite thing about Helping Horse is working with the riders, but also the amazing group of friends I’ve gained.

Certification:

        – PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor

If I were a horse, my name would be Sleepy, and my favorite snack would be Oatmeal Cream Pies.
